Crusaders’ Coliseum and Isle of Conquest

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Just to clarify one point:

Q u o t e:
Q: Will there be any kind of reputation and titles associated with the Coliseum and will there be a 310% mount meta-achievement reward?

Development Team: As with other Wrath of the Lich King dungeons, players are welcome to wear faction tabards to gain reputation with factions of their choice. Champion’s Seals will also drop through the Heroic 5-, 10-, and 25-player versions of the Crusaders’ Coliseum. With that said, players will not gain reputation simply for completing objectives in the coliseum, whether on normal or Heroic difficulty.

There will be no 310%-speed mount offered through a meta-achievement reward, as the current 310%-speed mount offered will not be removed when patch 3.2 is released. Going back to achievements though, we will be offering some great feat of strength rewards for those who truly master the tribute run.

Unfortunately, this slipped through the cracks. Champion’s Seals will only be awarded in Heroic Trial of the Champion, not in any of the 10- and 25-player raid versions. We’ll be updating the Q&A on our site to correct this shortly.

Rated Battleground Rewards?

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Zarhym wrote:

One of the ideas behind providing some sort of rating system for Battlegrounds to better measure a player’s individual skill and team contribution is to offer better rewards as a result. These rewards would ideally be in the same league as the top Arena gear.

Rated Battleground Rewards?

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Q u o t e:
I heared its going to be like at the end of each BG it would drop some gear depending on winning or losing

Zarhym wrote:

That is a system we would like to implement, but would apply more to Battlegrounds in general. For instance, those who might want to do some leveling through Battlegrounds will have the chance to roll on rewards at the end of a match.

Hey Blizz, can we have a "water dungeon"?

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Q u o t e:

I have a theory about this. The original Sonic the Hedgehog did it to us in our youth.

Remember that song it’d play when you started drowning?

Ever since then I’ve avoided water levels in any game like the plague. I think that’s what screwed us up!

Zarhym wrote:

That’s actually a really good theory. You just brought back lost memories of the stress involved when slowly drowning in Sonic.

Q u o t e:
Aren’t you always Z?

It was intended to be self-deprecating humor.

I’m still searching for it. Stop trying to cover it up.

Zarhym wrote:

Getting there is impossible without severely violating the Terms of Use. I’ve seen GM Island (for work-related purposes and not on any of my actual characters). Standing near a mailbox in any capital city is more interesting.

A developer island does not exist.

Why does Blizz fear the ranked BG?

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Q u o t e:

It has almost been 9 months since the release of WOTLK.

In the first 10 months after the original release of this game, the original development team proposed, developed, tested and implemented the following PVP features:

The battlegrounds Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin, Alterac Valley, the entry portals and NPCs around Azeroth for entry, battlemasters in major cities, BG-specific quests, The honor system including full armor sets and ranks and a website for tracking honor rankings, full factions for each battleground including different items at each faction tier.

In these 9 months you guys have talked about implementing this new battleground system and have developed but not yet released a battleground. On the Arena front you’ve had another Arena season.

That’s it.

Forgive me if I take the ‘It’s very very hard and time consuming to plan and development’ line with a pinch of salt. The old development team did this when the game was far less popular and had far less resources. In the meantime you guys have floundered by going from small Arena battles that aren’t popular and have come running back to Battlegrounds finally. But with your new battlegrounds you don’t design new quests and locations regarding them. You don’t implement reputations to gain with them. You don’t implement battleground reputation rewards which they used to do for every tier: That’s individual items for friendly, honored, revered and exalted. You’re doing less work, taking more time and complaining more about it.

Why is that? Shouldn’t you have more resources than back when the game was new and not part of mainstream culture as it now is?

Crygil wrote:

The major difference with this being that the majority of these items were already planned and were slated to come into the game. They had been worked on from the get go and had actually been developed over a couple of years. They were also not initially developed alongside live content.

Hey Blizz, can we have a "water dungeon"?

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Q u o t e:

Silly side question though. I died a while back to fatigue trying to cut some time off the trim from dragonblight to fjord. while going back to my body I found that you get fatigue even while ghosted. why would a ghost suffer from fatigue by traveling over deep water?

Zarhym wrote:

It’s a way to prevent some of the more crafty players from trying to look for theoretical places out somewhere deep in the ocean. If your ghost didn’t fatigue you could run endlessly out into the water. Some players used to think — or maybe still think — that doing so would allow them to discover secret developer islands where puppy laughter is the only currency and Frostmourne is used merely as a butter knife.
