Q u o t e:
I haven’t truly raided on my paladin since the days of Vanilla. I actually rolled warrior because back then no one gave me chance to tank or dps, and was stuck as a heal bot.
In a quick run down, what are the most substantial changes made to the paladin?
(btw I haven’t play the game for a year, and haven’t played a paladin since early BC)
Thankszors.

So many changes… I’ll try to keep this brief.
The most recent changes to the class have been sweeping in nature. We have moved two paladin trees away from their reliance on Intellect. We have built in multiple new mechanics that either streamlined or recreated entire aspects of paladin play.

Q u o t e:
Well i was looking up some decent Ret PvE builds and i thought that some of the Ret talents were useless in pve. Things like Divine Purpose and Eye for an Eye. Instead of placing the talent points into those couldn’t you place them in Divine Intellect? I thought that intellect not only provided a larger mana pool but doesn’t it add Spell Critical Chance? i thought that this would be good for Exorcism or other spells. Correct me if i’m wrong but wouldn’t this be the case?

While I will not tell you what to do with your talent points… I will tell you that Retribution paladins are not reliant on Intellect as a stat. This was a design decision made to make certain that players who chose this spec would, amongst other things, not have to wait for too terribly long for equipment itemized to their liking. Take from that what you will.

We have several big changes coming up for the paladin class in patch 3.2. The paladin class Q&A is still in progress, so rather than making you wait, we wanted to give you a preview of what we’re trying to do with all three paladin talent trees.

I’m not sure how many more ways to explain this, but I’ll try again.
Q u o t e:
And yet, here we are. It’s not just the nerfs people are angry about it is the way YOU lied to us, point bank, about it.
Ghostcrawler wrote:
I never lied. I’m not sure why that is such a sticking point. I almost always say "we think" or "we believe" or "at this time." And even if I don’t offer those caveats, we are allowed to change our minds.

Q u o t e:
Strangely enough the Beta forums went down right after the latest round of nerfs went live on the beta realms. It’s one of those "test it, tell us about it, but… erm… don’t actually tell us about it" things. You know? Like pretty much the entire Paladin Beta experience.

Do I smell a conspiracy?
As I posted, if we were really trying to reduce protest by locking people out of the beta forums, do you really think I would have immediately come over here?
Q u o t e:
GC has admitted that druids, for example, have "rabid" advocates among the devs, who have a "vested interest" in seeing that class "succeed".

Sorry, I’m not going to get fired over this. This is my job.
I do want to pick apart this statement though:
Q u o t e:
Many classes were concluding they were too weak based on comparing their numbers to paladin numbers (and to be fair, hunters and in some cases mages and warriors).
Ghostcrawler wrote:
Several of you have tried to use that against me in a "SEE OTHER CLASSES QQ AND BLIZZARD LISTENS TO THEM!" mode.
I am forced to conclude either:
You don’t think your dps was higher than other classes, or
Your dps was higher than other classes, but that was okay, or
You acknowledge your dps was higher than other classes, but they shouldn’t QQ about it, or
They should QQ about it, but we should ignore them (but be sure to pay more attention to your class).
To clarify (once again) we do listen to posters when they have feedback, even if it’s negative feedback, and even if it’s QQ.

Q u o t e:
You just completely compromised your earlier statement, whereby you claimed Blizzard does not listen to QQ for nerfing.
Ghostcrawler wrote:
Yes, we do listen to players. That’s why we have forums.
We don’t make changes just because players QQ though. When a lot of players start to say the same thing, we do investigate. Even in that case though most of the time we don’t make any changes.
In this case we went a long time, perhaps too long, before making any changes in spite of considerable QQ from other classes.
