During the 3.2 development cycle, players reported the bug that Hot Streak did not trigger from Living Bomb critical periodic damage. Initially, we made the decision to continue preventing Hot Streak from triggering. This resulted in the “non-periodic” text being added to the Hot Streak tooltip.

Today we continue our class Q&A series with Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street and the development team, where we’re taking a look at each class and answering some of the top questions brought forward by their communities. Next up, we take a look at the most asked questions from the mage class and find out more about the design philosophy behind the class, the expectations for the class, and what may lie in store for it in the future.

Mage Q&A with Ghostcrawler and the World of Warcraft Development Team

Community Team: Joining us today to shed some light on the many questions we’ve fielded from players within the mage community is the Lead Systems Designer for World of Warcraft, Ghostcrawler, who has enlisted the assistance of several members of our class design team to provide the most thorough answers possible.

We’d like to begin by exploring the perceived role of the mage class.

For those dissatisfied with the Q&A posted last night, this is a good thread to check out, as Ghostcrawler continues a bit of the dialog found in the Q&A.

The mage Q&A will be second after shaman. We’re compiling questions from all of our regions around the world, so it might take a couple of weeks to complete.

I’ve read just about all of the posts in this thread up to page 9.

Some discussion is certainly fine if the end goal is to refine the questions being asked. The ultimate goal though is to use this thread — and similar threads on our forums in all other regions — to compile a small number of questions, the answers to which we feel will give your class a good sense of where we see you in the grand scheme of things.

It looks like the talent calculator isn’t up to date at the moment as I don’t believe any of those changes have been reverted. We’ll get the calculator updated again soon.

Mages will get new abilities in the expansion too, believe it or not. In fact, we intend to tone down how strong of a counter warlocks are to mages through the wotlk spells/talents.
